Paul Meehan started contracting 20 years ago at the age of 17. In the summer months Paul runs a baling and wrapping contracting business and during the winter months he works with a food packaging company called Versatile Packaging in Monaghan Town.

Paul does 22,000 bales per year and covers an area between fifteen and twenty miles from his yard in Tydavnet. Paul runs two McHale balers, he runs a Fusion 3 which would normally do over half of his work, last year it did 12,000 bales and he also runs a McHale F5500 which did 10,000 bales last season.

Paul explained that “I have had great results with McHale.”

Paul works the Fusion 3 on a 2016 New Holland T7.185 recently purchased from New Holland dealer Barry McKenna. Paul likes the Fusion “because at the start and the end of the season you can do the one off jobs yourself and you are not reliant on other people to have to come and do the wrapping, with the Fusion you can do everything yourself.”

“With the Fusion the machine has the same output as a standard baler but you have a lot of savings as you don’t have to run two tractors, cutting down on your repayments, maintenance and diesel and you also need one less driver which saves on wages”.

Paul explained “We work on a lot of hilly ground and the Fusion works away no bother, the transfer system is simple and works every time.”

“In our area the farmers are very happy with the McHale balers, the McHale balers produce very good silage.”

Paul has a new McHale F5500 baler ordered from O’Neill’s which is due to arrive for the 2016 season. Overall Paul is very happy with the level of service from O’Neill’s and McHale as he said “Both O’Neill’s and McHale provide good service, James or John are always on the ball and are just a phone call away.”

Paul’s advice to anyone buying a baler is “Buy a McHale – she’ll not let you down!”
